German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
About Asia
Status: Adopted!
Adoption Fee: $400
Species: Dog
Current Size: 60 Pounds
Current Age: 7 Years 2 Months (best estimate)
Asia is a stunning 10 month-old girl, who is simply adorable. She is still a puppy, and she is full of energy, very playful and cuddly.
Asia is an energetic young girl who loves to be around her humans and especially likes hugs from the people she knows and loves. She likes to play fetch and really likes going on long walks. She has lots of energy but also likes to snuggle up and sleep late. Balls and squeakers are her favorite toys and she learns new tricks very quickly if you have treats and hugs to reward her with!
Asia walks well on a leash, crates nicely, loves to sleep in bed with you if allowed. She rides very well in the car. Asia is still working on her social skills and can be shy sometimes meeting new people, but she warms up quickly and is very loving. She prefers slower introductions with other dogs and would love to have a friendly, confident dog buddy in her forever home, to teach her the ropes. Asia does well with dogs of all sizes, including small ones, however, she will chase cats. Asia's ideal adopter must be active, have prior GSD experience, and be willing to keep working on her social skills and training. Asia will need an active home able to provide daily walks in addition to backyard playtime, outings for socialization, and the usual (positive reinforcement) training that GSD youngsters require.
Asia's adoption fee is $400, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives.Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.
Asia is a wonderful girl who will be the delight of an active, GSD-loving owner. Like all German Shepherds and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Asia will need training (positive reinforcement training), consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization. Because of that, she will need an active, experienced GSD owner. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
