German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

About Della Rose

Della Rose is a super cute Heeler mix girl who was rescued this summer from a reservation in SD. Stray reservation dogs lead a very hard life with no shelter, little food, and no vet care. Many of them die young due to accidents, deprivation, and/or sickness among other causes. Della Rose is very lucky that she was able to leave that life behind. She is absolutely loving being a pampered indoor pet in her foster home, and she cannot wait to find her forever home.

Della Rose is approximately 2 years old. Her foster parents tell us that Della has been a delight since the day she came from the reservation. She is friendly, affectionate, outgoing and loves every human she meets! In fact, she loves to cuddle and give sweet kisses. Like any Heeler, Della is very athletic and agile! However, once she's had her exercise, Della's favorite pastime is curling up for a nap and cuddling! Della does great with other dogs after slow introductions. In true Cattle Dog fashion, she tends to be the boss to her much bigger German Shepherd foster siblings! She is an absolute doll and a fabulously fun, lovable, active pup. Della has done a great job adjusting to life in her foster home. She knows basic commands, will work for treats, and she is doing great with potty-training and crate-training. Della rides very well in the car. She loves rope toys, and is pretty well-behaved in the house. Della is wildly intelligent, alert, loyal, and sweet as can be!

Della Rose's adoption fee is $275, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (treated if positive), and microchipped.
