German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
About Dublin *Tripod*. New name: Timber
Status: Adopted!
Adoption Fee: $395
Species: Dog
Current Age: 3 Years 4 Months (best estimate)
Dublin is an adorable, very sweet and friendly 6 month-old puppy, who landed at a kill shelter with an old femur fracture on his right rear leg. The shelter asked us to help, as poor Dublin would have been listed for euthanasia without prompt rescue. Dublin's leg was beyond repair due to how old the injury was, and the manner in which it had healed. Dublin has adjusted very well, and he does not lef the fact that he is a tripod slow him down one bit!
Dublin is a very handsome friendly guy looking for a loving home. He loves to cuddle and play with toys. He gets excited to have people visit him and loves to play with other dogs of all sizes, and is fine with cats! Everyone he meets loves him and says he is the sweetest boy. He will love all over you. Lays on your feet and wants you to rub him. Dublin does well in his crate, and sleeps all night. He is eager to learn, and treat-motivated. He ejoyst licking peanut butter right off your finger, is easy to walk on a leash, and does not know that he only has three legs! He truly has adjusted very well! He may stumble a tiny bit when he first gets up until he gets his footing, but he walks and runs great! He loves chewing on bones toys and laying on his bed! He is a very sweet, happy boy, who will make a great addition to very lucky household!
Like all Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd puppies and mixes, Dublin will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of structured activity and socialization, in order to become a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.
Dublin's adoption fee is $395, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.
