German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

About Tallulah

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $450
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 9 Months (best estimate)

Meet Tallulah Rose: Your New Best Friend! Princess Tallulah Rose is now available for the most loving home. Tallulah is a brilliant little one in a big girl body—the sweetest, most loving girl you'll ever meet. Kisses and cuddles are at the top of her list, along with spreading smiles and giggles wherever she goes. Her list of demands is long, but you won't be able to refuse. At the top of the list is total devotion.

Tallulah's Resume:
- Almost Perfect Potty Training: She's well on her way!
- Leash Skills:  Shes learning how to use a leash and can even carry it herself. It's the cutest thing!
- Commands: She’s almost mastered "front," "sit," and "down," although she sometimes takes her time to look adorable. "Go around" seems silly to her, but she’ll humor you.
- Treats: She likes to gum them up a tad before tossing them around like toys. WE ARE AM NOT KIDDING!
- Social Butterfly: Loves everyone she meets, and they love her, including other dogs. Her enthusiasm for kissing may be overwhelming for some, but who can resist puppy kisses?
- Stairs: Initially hesitant, but she’s now a stair-racing pro.

Tallulah's Ideal Home:
- Playful Fur Brother:  She'd love a playful brother, preferably close to her size, as smaller dogs can be overwhelmed by her love and kisses.
- Sleeping Arrangements: Enjoys cuddling in beds but will settle in a cozy crate overnight.
- Works for Praise: Not all about treats or toys; she loves to work for praise.
-Moderate Energy: Settles well with an antler chew but definitely has some zoomies and needs daily activities. She would Love to be a hiking partner and travels well in a car.
- Loyal Companion: Loves to follow her people around. This girl will be the pride and joy of a very lucky adopter.

Like any of our dogs, this beautiful girl would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that his breed needs. Because of that, Tallulah's ideal owner will have prior GSD or similar herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.

Tallulah's adoption fee is $450, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.
